The OG Dragon Ball manga is good. The anime is not as good. It kind of drags on. I've never read the DBZ manga. DBZ is where the anime started adding a bunch of filler episodes (nowhere near Naruto levels), ULTRA spoilery episode titles, and the stereotypical 15 episode long DBZ fight, but it's really not that bad.

The manga is the definitive way to experience Dragon Ball, imo. I re-read the entire thing a few years back and it was my best experience with the series ever by far. Toriyama's paneling and art, especially in the Kid Goku days, is absolutely classic. It's an incredible work of art.
